Fair Lawn in good voice for upcoming event

Theater lovers in the Fair Lawn area are getting excited for this year's The Stages Festival. A New Jersey-wide celebration, the event will feature Fair Lawn as the site for a special performance this year.

Currently in its 20th year, The Stages Festival is organized by the New Jersey Theatre Alliance (NJTA) as a way to bring drama to the people. All the performances across the state are either free or low cost, allowing access to people who might otherwise be unable or unwilling to pay the admission fee.

Over 80 performances will be held throughout the month as a part of the event, with Fair Lawn's event being just one part. Each theater troupe organizes its own event, with the NJTA providing marketing services for the overall festival.

For Fair Lawn's contribution to the fest, the Skyline Theatre Company will be staging its premiere production of 'Unbelievable’, a new original musical written by John Robert DeVore with music and lyrics by Rachel DeVore Fogarty and Kevin Fogarty. The story follows Beatrice 'Jackie' Mitchell, a woman who wowed crowds in the 1930s by striking out Babe Ruth. After the performance, audiences will have the chance to participate in a talkback with the writers, director, and performers involved in the piece.

The Stages Festival will be held on Friday, March 17 starting at 7:00 pm at the Fair Lawn Community Center, located at 10-10 20th St. Admission is free to the public, and anyone looking for more information should visit the website.
