Presently, the service runs in a constant loop around the city and the borough. However, from later this year, a new call-ahead service is being favored. Improvements are expected to be forthcoming, as the service shifts to collecting directly from their homes.
Talking about the changes, Jim Van Kruiningen, the Acting Borough Manager, said:
"The current operation is not efficient."
The last day in September will be the cutoff point, with flyer printing advertising the changes from an October 1 start.
Under the new system, anyone using the service will need to call in advance of when they want to be collected. An advance notice of 24 hours will be required from anyone wishing to use the minibus.
As well as a front door pick-up service, the bus will take the riders right back too. No matter the destination, a set time for the return pick up will be agreed with the riders.
With many residents impressed with the changes that are being introduced, it will also come as welcome news that the service is to remain a free one.
Benefits of the changes will see less fuel used and more help provided to those who struggle with mobility.
