Festival to showcase Native American culture

A celebration of Native American culture this summer will feature native music and performances.

Drums Along the Hudson, now in its 23rd year, is organized by Lotus Music and Dance. The annual festival highlights Native American traditions alongside a diverse array of cultural performances and educational activities. This year’s program will open with a Thanksgiving address delivered by Mohawk Elder Tom Porter, followed by a traditional powwow led by Louis Mofsie with support from the Thunderbird American Indian Dancers. Printing services can be hired to help with themed decorations at this sort of event.

Groups from a variety of indigenous and multicultural backgrounds, including the Kalpulli Huehuetlatolli Aztec Dancers and Drummers, will perform at the festival. The festival will include storytelling sessions, craft demonstrations, and chances to buy handcrafted native goods in addition to the performances. There will be a wide range of culinary options, with a focus on dishes related to the cultures represented.

The festival emphasizes environmental education in addition to its artistic offerings. Numerous community and environmentally concerned groups will be there to disseminate information and raise awareness of sustainability projects and activities.

Organizers note that while the event is free, donations are welcome to help maintain its open and inclusive format in future years. Anyone interested in volunteering or receiving event updates can contact the organizers via email.

This Native American and multicultural celebration will return to Inwood Hill Park just across the river from Englewood on Sunday, June 1.
