An opportunity to learn more about Japanese culture and music is nearly at hand, with a renowned artist making a visit to Englewood.
The Sounds of Japan: A Cultural Journey with Masayo Ishigure has an official date on the calendar in Englewood, allowing area residents to learn more about the music and culture in town. The gathering will take the audience on a musical adventure that examines Japanese heritage through the shamishen, koto, and other instruments.
Ishigure is famous as one of the best koto masters and has played on a Grammy-winning song from Memoirs of a Geisha. Masayo will be accompanied by an additional koto-player and shamishen. Organizers have planned for the last song of the show to be an emotionally charged experience. Colorful tools like poster printing can lead to impressions, which bring in a larger audience, making for a memorable show.
During the final song, the audience is encouraged to join the music by clapping and singing along accordingly. Guests can expect the concert to last for 45 minutes before the Q&A session begins. All three artists at the musical display will wear traditional Japanese kimonos.
The cultural experience has been announced for Saturday, May 9th, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at the Englewood Public Library. Spots are limited at the host venue, and reservations are open online for free.
