Medical practitioners will converge for a symposium discussing strokes.
Presented by the Kaplen Institute for Nursing Excellence, the 2025 Stroke Symposium runs from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and is designed to explore a range of topics related to stroke care and treatment, including current practices in blood pressure management, acute stroke identification, middle meningeal artery embolization, ischemic stroke management, aphasia communication strategies, and the use of animal-assisted therapy in rehabilitation.
The symposium will open with registration and a light breakfast, followed by a series of presentations from clinicians and experts in neurology, emergency medicine, speech-language pathology, and rehabilitation. Among the scheduled speakers are Dr. Wen-Chiao Peng, who will discuss blood pressure management in stroke patients, and Dr. Erik Chu, Chief of Emergency Medicine at Englewood Health, who will present on identifying acute stroke and optimizing emergency department workflow. Dr. Joseph Carnevale of New Jersey Brain and Spine will present on the use of middle meningeal artery embolization, while Dr. Rikki Racela, Director of the Stroke Program at Englewood Health, will provide a detailed review of ischemic stroke. Full details about events can be shared with brochure printing.
Aphasia and communication challenges following stroke will be addressed during a panel discussion led by Zoey Shepard of the Adler Aphasia Center. The symposium will conclude with a presentation on animal-assisted therapy by Mary E. van der Meer and Eileen Yorke from the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation.
