Indoor skydiving facility on the way to Edison

Edison residents wondering whether they might like skydiving will have the opportunity to try the sport without leaving the ground.

iFly, a company that builds facilities for indoor skydiving, has set its sights on Edison for its next location. The facility will cover 8,300 square feet on Route 1 South, at Edison Town Square. The complex is also home to a Top Golf location.

iFly’s new tunnel openings vice president, K. Trevor Thompson, said his company was excited by the opportunity to build a location in Edison, which he feels needs something fun and interesting to do. He also said iFly decided to build near an existing Top Golf because both activities are premium attractions.

The main feature of the attraction will be a vertical wind tunnel, which is suitable for Flyers of any age. Before anyone flies for the first time, they take a short class about techniques for flying and communicating with instructors. Companies like this can use flyer printing to develop instructional materials.

There are a number of options for skydivers, with varying prices that also include training, rental of a jumpsuit, and a personalized certificate given at the end of the session. Flights are about a minute long.

According to Thompson, the facility will be available for many activities including STEM education nights and birthday parties. An “All Abilities Night” will be held every six months, when people with disabilities can learn to fly. Construction should start this summer, with a 2020 opening.
