Fun event pads into Edison

A two-day celebration of animals that are equally lovable and exasperating is coming to Edison.

The Garden State Cat Club (GSCC) of NJ is presenting its 87th Cat Show, the World Cup of Cats, which will take over the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center for two days.

During that time, cat lovers can enjoy special events in the Presentation Ring. These include stories of rescuing cats, the Best Household Pet Award, a cat costume contest, and the Parade of Breeds.

A special area, the Feline Agility Ring, will be set up where every cat entered in the show can compete. A toy will be used to entice the cats through a timed course, and the fastest feline wins.

The Parade of Breeds will allow show visitors to see a variety of cats in one area. A qualified judge will describe the breed characteristics and discuss their unique attributes.

Cats in costume will appear both days in the Presentation Ring, where visitors are encouraged to enjoy the imaginative display. Children will no doubt enjoy this activity.

Show organizers have invited businesses and individuals who provide cat-related products and services to be part of the Vendor Mall. Items for sale include clothing, cat toys, carriers, and cat trees.

The show is scheduled for July 18 and 19 and is the GSCC’s main fundraiser. Handouts with schedules are useful at events like this, and organizers can create them using flyer printing.
