A colorful celebration of Indian culture will take place in Edison.
Rang Barse is a color run that celebrates the Indian festival of Holi. The event in Edison is the largest in the state of New Jersey. Holi festivities are easy to recognize because of the brightly colored powders that people throw at one another during the event. They may also rub color into each other’s faces, if they have permission to do so. This “face painting” makes the colors stand out even more.
The Holi festival has been an Indian tradition for centuries, and celebrates new life, spring, and the defeat of evil and triumph of good. Above all, Holi celebrates love in all expressions and Forms. Numerous stories have come to be associated with the Holi festival, including the practice of participants rubbing “abeer” and “gulal” on other’s faces and saying “Holi Hai.”
Festival organizers will provide snacks and appetizers, non-alcoholic beverages, white T-Shirts, and organic colors. Guest may not bring colors of their own to the event. The colors show up best on white, though attendees may wear whatever they like. Live music is also planned. Organizers of such events can use banner printing to create markers to indicate the course, as well as creating decorations for the event.
The Holi festival is scheduled for April 16 from 1:00 pm onwards, at Roosevelt Park, Grove 2, in Edison.
