A two-day course on wilderness medical aid is set to occur in East Hanover this summer.
Over two days, the basics of wilderness first aid will be covered in eight-hour sessions. On the first day, topics that will be taught include patient assessment, wound treatment, head injuries, spinal injuries, and how to manage shock.
The second day’s topics will include altitude sickness, heat sickness, cold injuries, musculoskeletal injuries, lightning strike injuries, anaphylaxis, mental confusion, breathing difficulties, chest pain, and abdominal pain. The organizers of courses often use flyer printing to create course outlines and other printed handouts for participants.
Upon successful completion of course, participants will receive a Wilderness First Aid certificate.
Created through a partnership between NOLS and REI, this educational course is targeted toward individuals 16 years of age and older. On the day of the course, minors must bring a printed liability form signed by both themselves and a parent or guardian.
Both beginners and those who are looking for a refresher are welcome to register for this course. Registration costs $245 to $275 per person.
This event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 20 and Sunday, June 21 from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm on both days. Regardless of weather, the course will proceed through rain or shine.
