Next month, the Crane House & Historic YWCA will hold its Guided House Tour: Many Voices event for those in the Montclair, should those in nearby East Hanover wish to visit.
A federal-style home, The Crane House, is on National Register of Historic Places for its rich history and significance in industry, architecture, and conservation. In 1912, the YWCA of Montclair-North Essex purchased the house and repurposed it as a refuge for women of color, providing a safe space for them to reside until finding employment. In 1953, it was a place of refuge and safety to all women and served as a model for the future of integration.
The historic home now offers guided tours of the building to the public. The tour in January will allow visitors a glimpse into what the lives of the home’s occupants were like throughout history. Visitors will be able to explore the exterior grounds as well, taking time to learn about the herbs in the Landsberger Learning Garden.
Tour events often hand out informative Brochures, created using local brochure printing services, to visitors to follow along with as they go on the tour.
The guided tour is scheduled for January 22 from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The Crane House is located at 110 Orange Road, Montclair, only a few miles from East Hanover. Admission is $12.
