East Hanover learns wilderness first aid

A special class will be held in East Hanover, hosted by REI and NOLS. This two-day session will cover such basics as what to do in an emergency situation and how to administer first aid.

This class is designed specifically for people who enjoy hiking, backpacking, and generally being in the backcountry away from civilization. It aims to prepare students for emergency situations and various kinds of injuries.

It will teach students to evaluate patients and situations, how to assemble an evacuation plan, what kind of emergency procedures are in place and will help in certain situations, and what can safely be done for various kinds of injuries. The class covers such topics as spinal cord injuries, head injuries, cold and heat injuries, and altitude sickness, among many others.

The class is organized and approved by NOLS, a nonprofit wilderness school. NOLS teaches leadership skills, using wilderness and training as a means of teaching. The nonprofit also values sustainability, respect, and communication, all of which are expanded upon in its classes.

Classes and limited opportunities such as this one often use brochure printing to help advertise; often, Brochures also offer a way to enroll for the class or get more information. The class will be held over two days, Saturday and Sunday, February 23 and 24, in the East Hanover REI.
