East Hanover learns to dance

Locals can learn to Contra dance courtesy of The Folk Project, with beginner lessons and open dancing available next month.

The Folk Project holds dancing at the First Presbyterian Church Parish House on Hanover Road. Smoking and alcohol are strictly not allowed at this location. Parking is available in the church lot.

Swingin’ Tern aims to bring Contra and Square dancing to East Hanover. Contra dancing is a form of country dancing that requires very little prior knowledge. It is easy to pick up, which makes it popular with people who are not confident dancers or who just want to have fun.

These dance nights are often broken up into 9 to 12 dances, with a break in the middle. Dancers usually switch partners every dance, allowing people of all skill levels to mingle.

The beginners lesson precedes the dance, starting at 7:30 pm. The dancing starts at 8:00 pm and goes until about 11:00 pm. Participants are asked to bring their own clean, soft-soled shoes. Children are allowed at the event, although they must be supervised at all times.

Events such as this often use flyer printing to help advertise for ongoing events or recurring schedules. These Flyers might also advertise the different musicians and groups featured at these events. The current dates for upcoming dances are November 3 and 17.
