What's Happening in North Conway, NH…

North Conway residents have a new place to enjoy the outdoors

A new conservation area has opened near North Conway, and it promises to have something for just about everyone.

The Marshall Conservation Area was recently dedicated and made open to the public. There was a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by 35 people, includinglocal officials and Margaret Marshall, who cut the ribbon.

The piece of land is located next to the White Mountain National Forest, and was bought by the Conway Conservation Commission from its owners, the Marshall Family, last November using money contained in a conservation fund that had been established in the late 1980s.

The area has a variety of trials for hiking, skiing, or snowmobiling, and also other natural features that are already attracting the public. A stationery printing firm can produce maps of the trails, as well as brochures that explain the natural features, signage for the conservation area, and specially designed T-shirts that commemorate its opening.

Chris Marshall was not able to attend the event, but a letter form him was read on his behalf. He noted that he was really pleased that the land will be available for future generations to enjoy without risk of it being lost to development. He further remarked that he is really happy to see the family name used, as the land has always meant a lot to the Marshalls.
