North Conway honors its main drivers of tourism
North Conway businesses recently took part in a ‘Rally for Tourism’ to help celebrate National Tourism Week.
The Sea Dog Brewing Company’s manager Robert Labbe, along with Shipyard Brewing Company owner Fred Frosely, took part in a ribbon cutting ceremony on May 7 to help kick off the event, which was organized by the Mount Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce
A PowerPoint presentation about the important role tourism plays in the local economy was also given by Janice and Jamie Crawford, who are the Chamber’s executive director and its marketing and communications director respectively.
After the presentation, a toast was made to Mount Washington Valley and the tourists who help keep its economic life running briskly. There were also awards presented to two local people who have helped to ensure the area attracts many visitors each year. Robert Bryant was given the ‘Valley Host with the Most’ award, while Ryan Sommer was granted the ‘Unsung Tourism Hero Award’.
A secondary role of the event was to recognize those businesses that, while not necessarily directly involved in attracting visitors to the area, play an important role by providing support and materials to those that do. An example would be a printing company that provides printed menus, signage, banners, decorations, and business cards to local restaurants and other firms.
The event was part of the year’s activities presented by the Chamber to boost local business. Anyone seeking further information is invited to contact the Chamber online or by calling (603) 356-5701.
