What's Happening in North Conway, NH…

North Conway birders welcome to learn warblers calls

Warblers are known for their small size and pretty songs, and while they may not always be easy to spot in the wild, knowing their calls can help North Conway birders to identify them in the field.

Will Broussand, who has had a lifelong interest in birding, will help others to enjoy the pastime as much as he does by teaching them how they can identify different species of warblers from their song alone. Along with this, he will share other tips for bird ID, and the evening is open to all levels of birders.

The class will have an opportunity to listen to several warbler songs, and they will also learn about their plumage and other field marks. They will also find out what habitats they prefer and their habits, and this can all be put to use during one of the bird walks offered at Tin Mountain.

Field guides can be valuable aids for both beginning and advanced birders, and print shops can prepare items like these. They can be combined with a bird checklist and given out to those who attend an event like this to help encourage them to take up the hobby.

Identifying Spring Warblers will be offered to the public on Wednesday, May 1. It will be taking place in the Whitney Community Center in Jackson.
