Inn gets nod for its environmental efforts
A North Conway resort has taken energy efficiency and running a business using ‘green’ technology to new heights, having recently been recognized for its efforts.
The Eastern Slope Inn and Resort has undertaken a wide variety of measures to save energy and to leave less of a carbon footprint. Some of the environmentally friendly initiatives include using flat panel solar energy to produce water, having a wide-ranging recycling program, installing energy efficient florescent lighting and appliances, using washers that offer high efficiency and use less water, and choosing eco-friendly products. According to a representative from the Inn, these changes not only protect the environment; they save money as well.
The efforts have made so much of a difference that they were recently recognized by the Sustainable Lodging and Restaurant Program. The inn was awarded the highest possible level of commendation, and was presented with the rating of ‘Eco Champion’.
It was noted by the organizers that the initiatives fit in perfectly with the natural setting, which is a big draw for visitors to the area.
