The Joslyn Art Museum is offering two long-running exhibits, both of which are dedicated to the use of intense graphics and printing techniques to make a point.
One that recently got underway is ‘In Living Color: Andy Warhol and Contemporary Print Making’, which is on still display at the museum for a couple of months. It examines the use of color by Warhol and 19 of his contemporaries. Works from three decades of the artist’s work are on display, including his Print of Marilyn Monroe from 1967 and his Mao Zedong created in 1972. The works are from the collection of Jordan D. Schnitzer and his Family Foundation.
Beginning in November is ‘Bam! It's a Picture Book: the Art Behind Graphic Novels’. This exhibition will feature pen and ink drawings, mixed media, computer art, and storyboards. Some of the artists featured are Raina Telgemeier, Mark Crilley, and Matthew Holm.
Both shows will likely appeal to those in Omaha who work with graphics or printing companies. It is a chance for them to understand the history of Print and be inspired by those who have gone before.
‘In Living Color’ began on October 10 and runs until January 11, while ‘Bam! It's a Picture Book’ will be showing from November 8 until March 29, 2015.
