A joint presentation by Opera Omaha and the Omaha Symphony will bring together orchestral and operatic performance in a two-part program at the Holland Performing Arts Center.
The program opens with Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, a cornerstone of Western orchestral repertoire known for its four-note motif and dramatic structure. The composition moves through tension-filled passages before resolving in a triumphant conclusion.
The second half features Béla Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle, a one-act opera centered on a newly married woman who enters the home of her mysterious husband and discovers a series of sealed rooms containing disturbing revelations. The work is presented as a psychological narrative driven by orchestral color and vocal performance.
The production is led by conductor Lidiya Yankovskaya, with vocal roles performed by Ryan McKinny and Michelle DeYoung. The staging incorporates projected visual elements designed by David Murakami to enhance the opera’s atmosphere and narrative tension.
Organizers describe the collaboration as a convergence of two major cultural institutions, combining symphonic and operatic traditions in a single program. Banner printing is commonly used throughout the venue to display performance information and for decorative purposes.
Ticket pricing varies by seating selection; additional details can be found through the event listing. Service fees may apply at the time of purchase.
The performances are scheduled for Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25. Both performances will start at 7:30 pm at the Holland Performing Arts Center, 1200 Douglas St, Omaha.
