Poinsettia show adds color to Omaha holidays

A vibrant display of the plant that symbolizes the holidays will add some color to the season for Omaha residents.

The Holiday Poinsettia Show features more than 5,000 poinsettias of a variety of colors, and a giant 20-foot tall poinsettia tree at the floral centerpiece, made from 700 plants. A model train circles the tree, which is also surrounded by beautifully wrapped gifts.

There are 20 varieties of the plant on display, and organizers will be changing the varieties and the arrangements so the exhibit is always different. Wreaths and candles will add to the festive decor.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. The exhibit is designed for visitors to tour the gardens only one-way to ensure social distancing. Exhibits such as this one can use local printing services for Signs and Banners.

Outside the climate-controlled gardens, families can roast s’mores over an open firepit in the Family Chill Zone.

Poinsettias are a traditional Christmas plant in Mexico and Central America. They made their way north and became associated with the holidays after the first U.S. ambassador to Mexico brought them the U.S. in the early 1800s.

The Holiday Poinsettia Show opens Saturday, November 21 and runs until Tuesday, January 5 at the Lauritzen Gardens, 100 Bancroft Street in Omaha. The hours are from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The gardens are closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
