The Hawkeye Hotels recently developed plans to build a hotel located in Omaha’s Old Entertainment District, and received authorization from the Omaha City Council.
The new six-story hotel will be the Moxy brand. It will be built on 12th and Harney Streets, and will be the first hotel in Nebraska built by Hawkeye.
The company sought approval for their plan to build the hotel in April 2018. They will work with the Omaha City Council to meet historic preservation standards for the new building.
Raj Patel, the chief development officer at Hawkseye Hotels, says that the company is excited to develop the Old Market area in Omaha and to keep its historic significance. It has been an honor, he said, to work closely with the community leaders and Omaha City Council on the specifics of this development and transformation.
Marriott’s new brand Moxy is designed to increase social interaction among guests at the hotel. Omaha is the fifth location of this brand in the Midwest. The new hotel will have 105 rooms. It will have a fitness center, and valet parking.
The hotel will be conveniently located near restaurants, retail stores, and attractions. Construction will begin in August. The hotel is expected to create 40 jobs for residents.
