Omaha vintage festival celebrates junk

One person’s trash is another person’s treasure, and nowhere is this more true than at one of the biggest and most popular vintage festivals in the country, which is getting ready to open again this fall.

Junkstock, which began as a small affair in 2012 with 29 vendors, has become a must visit destination for lovers of junk, reused and repurposed items, antiques and vintage goods.

The event combines “junking” with live music and food and drink in a festival-like atmosphere at a 116-year-old farmstead just outside Omaha. It is a labor of love of founder Sara Alexander, who began with a small store in Papillion and decided she wanted to make Omaha “more fun and funky,” according to the event’s website.

Junkstock now boasts more than 200 vendors and attracts people from all over the US. Vendors at events like this usually get brochure printing services from local Print shops and have plenty of Business Cards on hand.

The event takes place at Sycamore Farms, a quick and easy drive west of Omaha on Highway 6 and 28B. It will be held over two weekends: Friday, October 2 to Sunday, October 4; and Friday, October 9 to Sunday, October 11. Friday hours are 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, Saturday’s are 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Sunday’s are 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
