Omaha starts May in Mexican style

Cinco de Mayo Omaha is taking place next month for three days, and locals can look forward to the largest celebration of its type in the Midwest.

The celebration promises to have something to entertain every member of the family. It will kick off with an introduction to the Queen candidates, a concert by Contral, and the opening of the carnival rides and games.

The second day will begin at 9:30 am with the Race of the Bulls, in which runners will be chased down the street by mascots in bull costumes. It will be followed by the 30th annual parade which will travel along 24th Street at 10:00 am, and residents and businesses can still sign up to participate for fees of $50 to $275. Later on in the day, the Queen's coronation will be held.

Over the three-day event, there will also be a Kids' World and Youth Area with lots of age-related activities, health, education and job fairs, food, and vendors. The finale concert will feature Alacranes Musical.

Omaha poster printing companies often provide advertising materials to spread the word about events like this one.

Cinco de Mayo Omaha will take place from May 1 to 3 at the South Omaha Plaza. Admission is free and the concerts are $5 each, although unlimited carnival ride passes are also available. Call 402-734-3240 for more information.
