Omaha senior birders offered learning opportunity

Birdwatching combines light exercise with fun in the great outdoors, and Omaha seniors who enjoy the hobby will want to be among the crowd for an upcoming event.

A gathering has been planned for Fontenelle Forest that will explore why some species go south while others stay behind and tough out the Nebraska winters. Both common and rare species will be discussed, and the function will be led by Audubon Society of Omaha Past President Bob Wells.

During the activity, Wells will share his expertise and tips that may be helpful to both beginner and experienced birders. A discussion of the annual Audubon Board Count is also on the agenda, and the attendees will learn why it is so important. The session will run for one hour, and the registration fee is $11.

Those who are new to a hobby often appreciate learning from people with more experience, and the host of events in this vein may choose to distribute promotional Pens and activity Journals to those who take part. These come in an assortment of styles, and will be available at area Print shops.

Whether they are just starting out or want to spot a “lifer,” the Seniors Understanding Nature Winter Birding in Nebraska will be on offer on December 22. The venue can be found at 1111 Bellevue Boulevard North.
