Omaha knitter makes 40th annual holiday season donation

An Omaha resident, who has put her knitting skills to use for the past few decades in helping others, has once again made her annual holiday donation to charity.

This past year, she was able to make 19 pairs of mittens, 233 hats, and 13 lap blankets that can be used by someone in a wheelchair. She gave them all away to local not-for-profit groups who made sure they got to those who needed them.

Emma Christiansen remarked to KETV News that she has been knitting for more than 70 years. She noted that there were times, such as during the war, that she did because she had to, as knit items had to be made instead of purchased. She says she now does it because she enjoys it and finds it to be therapeutic.

Christiansen, who has been doing this for the past 40 years, said it makes her feel good to be able to do so. As soon as her donation was made, she planned on starting work on next year’s. A printer can design and Print special Holiday Cards wishing a happy holiday season that could be included with items like these.

The knitter wanted to let the public know that she welcomes the contribution of any unused yarn they may have. Those who would like to do so are invited to contact JGear@hearst.com for more information.
