Omaha gardeners who have been “dyeing’ to add some new species to their garden may want to make time for a spring workshop.
An event that will help to kick off another gardening season will introduce the public to plants that can be used to produce dyes. It is open to members of Lauritzen Gardens as well as the general public, although it is limited to just 10 learners.
The students in the session will be introduced to annual and perennial plants that have traditionally been used as sources of colour for textiles and other purposes. There will be a focus on species that perform well in the USDA Zone 4 climate, and at the end of the workshop, each registrant will go home with some seedlings or seeds to help them get started. The fee to participate is $60, and anyone who would like to sign up is invited to do so now.
An activity like this can be both fun and educational, and supplying the attendees with sheets that provide them with care tips and other information is one way to make sure they learn as much as possible. Stationery printers can supply these, as well as promotional Pens and other items for giveaway.
The DIY Dye Garden seminar will be offered to local green thumbs on May 16. It is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm.
