It may be called vintage, repurposed, or gently used, but for those who flock to a unique festival near Omaha, they just have one word for it – junk. What’s more, they deem it worth celebration.
Junkstock is celebrating its 6th year of celebrating junk culture: vendors, artists and other businesses who are passionate about home-crafted, handmade, repurposed or antique items are sure to take an interest.
Junkstock is the creation of Sara Alexander, a mother of two whose passion for junking started when she was remodelling her home. She realized there was no real outlet in her region for people with similar passions. So she opened her own store where she sold unique repurposed things and then in 2012 she started a festival on an old abandoned farm west of Omaha.
Junkstock brings together live music, food and hundreds of antique and junk vendors all in one place. Vendors sell jewelry, furniture, home-décor, and much more.
Live bands will entertain all weekend long on the wooden Junkstock stage, starting at 10:00 am and ending at 6:00 pm. Friday and Saturday, and 11:00 am to 4:00 pm on Sunday.
Events like these are opportunities for vendors to use Business Cards to hand out to shoppers so that they come back or become regular customers.
A one-day pass is $10 per person, and a three-day pass for the weekend is $20. Children under 12 can visit free of charge. There is a special Kids Village with entertainment and games.
Junkstock takes place October 4 to 6, at Sycamore Farms, located at 1150 River Road Drive in Waterloo, just west of Omaha.
