A Mexican celebration of the dead is coming to life at the Omaha Children’s Museum.
Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, is a Mexican holiday where the living remember family members who have passed away, removing the taboo stigma of death common in other North American cultures.
The children’s animated movie, Coco, played a big role in opening the idea of the holiday to American children. In Mexico, it is not a day of sadness, but a day of celebration.
The Children’s Museum Day of the Dead event is designed to educate children on what the holiday is about. There is also a multitude of Day of the Dead-themed games such as bingo, decorating puppets, story readings, and there will be traditional music playing throughout the museum.
Admission for adults and children is $14. There will be a limited number of tickets for sale starting a week before the event. Museums such as this one can use banner printing services to advertise their special events.
The Omaha Children’s Museum Day of the Dead event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 31 and Sunday, November 1. Hours are 9:00 am to 11:30 am, and 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm. The museum is located at 500 South 20th Street in Omaha.
