Guitar exhibit tuning up to rock Omaha this summer

The history of the most recognized instrument in the world will be explored, celebrated, and studied at The Durham Museum in Omaha this summer, with an exhibit called ‘GUITAR: The Instrument that Rocked the World Experience’.

From country to punk and mariachi to flamenco, the beloved string instrument has influenced music in many ways. All types and styles of guitars will be on display, with more than 60 in total, along with approximately 100 historical exhibits. The exhibit has been touring the country since 2011.

Science also plays a prominent role in the exhibit as it looks into acoustics. Visitors will learn how different materials can combine to create vastly different sounds. Wood, metal, or fiberglass bodies, combined with nickel, bronze or nylon strings can change tone, style and mood, but regular music fans can seldom distinguish the difference this makes when listening in a car or house.

Local Print shops can be useful at exhibits such as this one to provide visitor programs or brochure printing for marketing purposes.

This celebration of the guitar is scheduled to open at the Durham Museum on May 30 and run until September 6. The museum address is 801 S. 10th Street. Due to the coronavirus global pandemic, residents are urged to contact the museum or check for updates before visiting.
