Two schools are due to be built in southwestern Wake County, but the names have not been definitely selected.
One school will be located in Fuquay-Varina near Kennebec Road and Old Honeycutt Road, and the other will be in Holly Springs, near Avent Ferry Road and Cass Holt Road.
The school board recommended the first facility be called Willow Spring High School, and the second Buckhorn Creek Elementary School. However, these were not the first names chosen. Previously, the school in Fuquay-Varina was to be called Kennebec Road High School, while the Holly Springs school would have borne the name Honeycutt Road Elementary. These names referenced the roads that patrons would use to get to the schools.
The reconsideration took place because John Byrne, the mayor of Fuquay-Varnia, wrote to the county's school board, saying that the commissioners of Fuquay-Varina unanimously supported naming the school Willow Spring High. The county officials decided to honor the town's wishes, and also made the same decision with regard to the second school. One of the committee members, Jim Martin, said the county always preferred to work with the municipalities and respect their wishes.
The final naming decision will be made at the school board meeting August 16, 2016.
Organizations like these can benefit by working with flyer printing companies, which can create materials that explain community issues in depth.
