What's Happening in Raleigh, NC…

Raleigh teaches how to test for truffle colonization

Truffles are a type of fungi that grows in symbiotic relationship with trees, and a Raleigh workshop will offer a chance for those interested in their cultivation to get their feet wet.

North Carolina State University has dedicated a full day workshop to using a microscope to test tree roots for evidence of colonization by truffle fungi, and it will be geared at North American species. Four subject matter experts will be lending their skills and knowledge to the occasion, and materials will be provided.

The day will get started with a review of the learning objectives for the class and after this, there will be a demonstration of the tools used. The attendees will learn how to use a stereoscopic microscope, and they will then move on to preparing a root sample for inspection. Lunch will be provided, and the afternoon will include an introduction to the compound light microscope. Everyone will learn how to identify different truffle fungus species, and microscope slide preparation will be reviewed. There will be times for questions, and a “freebie hour” will wrap up the day.

A workshop often compresses a lot of information in a small amount of time. A brochure printing company can be tasked with preparing manuals and other copies of bound learning materials.

This chance to learn how to test tree roots for colonization by truffle fungi will be run on October 18th at 100 Derieux Place. Early bird tickets will be available until September 1st.
