The North Carolina General Assembly has announced that 2023 will be The Year of the Trail in honor of the 1973 NC Trails System Act’s 50th Anniversary.
North Carolina has no shortage of offerings for people who love the outdoors, with numerous trails found all over the state, including the mountains, by the coastline, or in cities such as Raleigh. The effort to mark 2023 as the Year of the Trail is being spearheaded by the Great Trails State Coalition and anyone who loves to paddle, hike, or run on North Carolina’s trail network is welcome to celebrate with them.
The Great Trails Coalition has set several goals for the year. These include convincing more people of all ages to start using trails, making the trails more attractive to tourists by hosting events all over the state, showing people how to use the trails safely, and making the trails more inclusive. Flyer printing can be used to promote a program like this.
Local counties and cities are encouraged to take the initiative when celebrating the Year of the Trail. Wake County has already organized an event where participants will be able to visit three preserves and eight parks. Participants who keep track of the parks they have visited will be eligible to win a prize at the end of the year. Durham Parks and Recreation will be promoting different trails and new activities for every month of 2023.
