Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred has been discussing expanding major league baseball, and Raleigh is hoping to be one of the cities to be chosen for a franchise.
Manfred is working to resolve issues with the stadiums where the Tampa Bay Rays and Oakland Athletics play, but has also said he is certain the league will grow to the point where it includes 32 teams. The expansion will take place slowly, but it will happen. Cities such as Montreal, Las Vegas, and Portland have been actively working to acquire a franchise, and now Raleigh has joined in campaigning to be chosen for an expansion franchise, either a relocating team or a new one.
It's possible that either the Tampa Bay Rays or the Oakland Athletics could relocate. However, some progress has been made on the A's new ballpark, while the park that was to be built for the Tampa Bay Rays, a stadium that was to be built in the Tampa neighborhood of Ybor City, has fallen through. Given this, it's possible the Rays would be willing to relocate.
Although Raleigh is likely not the first name that comes to mind when the expansion of league baseball is discussed, the city has a large television viewership, which would be appealing to any team. Officials could use Logo Design to create a symbol for the new Raleigh baseball franchise.
