After years of concerted efforts to rebuild the Wade Avenue Interchange and connect it to the Interstate 440 Beltline, a significant milestone was achieved as outbound Wade traffic was shifted to newly constructed bridges.
Motorists traveling in the westbound direction through Raleigh on Wade Avenue will now be directed onto a newly constructed bridge that carries the road over the Beltline. This marks a departure from the previous configuration where Wade Avenue passed under the Beltline in both directions. Poster printing could be used to inform drivers of a new traffic pattern like this.
Drivers who intend to travel from westbound Wade Avenue onto the Beltline towards Cary will now utilize a ramp that branches off to the left from the new bridge. They will then merge with traffic exiting from eastbound Wade Avenue before accessing Interstate 440.
As part of the updated driving pattern in this region, drivers exiting I-440 onto Wade Avenue heading west will keep making a left turn at the end of the ramp, similar to the current configuration. They will pass under the Beltline and then merge with Wade Avenue on the other side of the new bridge. It is worth noting that due to the location where the merge happens, these drivers will not have access to the exit for Blue Ridge Road and will instead continue on to Edwards Mill Road.
