Raleigh predicted to lead country in cordcutting

A website that helps consumers find options for streaming television predicts that Raleigh will lead the country in cordcutting in 2019.

The website, Cordcutting.com, recently published a report entitled “Cities to Watch in 2019”, which lists the cities where people are most likely to drop cable. To compile the list, the site used industry reports and analyses, along with census data, to find out where access to technology was good and download speeds were quick, thanks to broadband expansion. Those cities leading the list of cordcutters had internet speeds greater than 110Mbps, with broadband supplied to about 90% of households.

Raleigh comes in with great numbers. The fastest download speeds are 137.70 Mbps, and 90.7% of households have broadband connections. In addition, broadband access has been growing rapidly in Raleigh, leading Cordcutting.com to their conclusion. They also based their report on the fact that almost 30% of American adults use a streaming service to watch television. For those in the 18-29 age bracket, the number rises to 61%.

Cordcutting is the word that applies to people who “cut the cord” and get rid of cable television. There are two main reasons for this decision - first, internet speeds are now fast enough to make it easy to watch television via computer; second, cable is getting too expensive for many customers. In situations like this, alternative services can use flyer printing and mailouts to attract customers.
