Locals who enjoy good food will have a new restaurant to explore this fall, when Tupelo Honey Café opens its first Raleigh location.
The restaurant, which is headquartered in Asheville, plans to open its new eatery inside the 401 Oberlin apartments, which are located across from Cameron Village. The storefront comprises 5,800 square feet, seats 220, and includes a patio. The Raleigh restaurant is Tupelo Honey Café’s fourth store in North Carolina; its first café opened in Asheville in 2000.
Steve Frabitore, owner of Tupelo, says he and his team have admired the Triangle food scene for a long time, and jumped on the opportunity to move to the area. Two of the company’s chefs, Elizabeth Sims and Brian Sonoskus, met with media representatives and reassured them the restaurant did not want to “bring an Asheville restaurant” to the area, but instead make it a restaurant that focuses on Raleigh, by using local sources where possible and contacting local artists to use their works to enhance the décor.
The restaurant focuses on Southern cooking and their signature dishes include shrimp and grits and sweet potato pancakes. Other items include meat loaf, crab cakes, and classic fried chicken.
Tupelo could work with a flyer printing company to create handouts to distribute near the new location when it opens.
