Popular festival set for changes

A new location for the bluegrass organization's yearly festival was revealed by officials from Raleigh and the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA).

The city plans to host an Americana-themed music festival starting in 2025. PineCone, a charitable organization based in Raleigh that has organized the bluegrass event and held it downtown since its arrival in 2013, will manage the newly formed festival. The Board of Directors of the IBMA declared that the search for a new site for the festival is in progress. The board intends to make the new venue location public by year's end. David Brower, the executive director for Pinecone, commented to say:

“All of the roots music that’s based here, whether it be bluegrass or old time or gospel or funk or soul, it’s all going to have a place on the stages here. They can bring people together.”

Raleigh was the fourth city to host the IBMA World of Bluegrass festival and, according to the organizers, was also its best. The city of Raleigh coordinated extensively with people from the IBMA to change the festival into an updated model that includes both ticketed sections and free stages. The expansion of the festival's capacity to accommodate more than 200,000 revelers over the previous decade demonstrated the effectiveness of this concept.
