Durham and Raleigh residents can keep tabs on the progress of One City Center by watching the crane that stands on the site.
The new building will take about two years to construct, and will be 27 stories tall when finished. According to Jane Hills, who is with Austin Lawrence Partners, which owns 63% of the project, the crane will remain where it is until the project is completed and tenants start arriving, then it will be dismantled.
The skyscraper is one of two projects currently under construction by Austin Lawrence near the intersection of Corcoran Street and West Parrish Street. The other is the renovation of the Jack Tar Motor Lodge, which will be transformed into a boutique hotel offering 74 rooms. The hotel will operate under the Unscripted brand of Dream Hotels. Austin Lawrence bought the motel in part for its parking deck, which offers 250 spaces and will provide parking spaces for the One City Center tower.
One City Center is a mixed-use building that offers four floors for offices and retail shops, two parking stories, and twenty-one stories dedicated to housing units—109 apartments, and 30 condos. Hills said about 600 people are expected to visit the building daily.
Companies like these can benefit if they work with flyer printing companies that can create mailers for area residents, informing them of street closures and other noteworthy events.
