The Raleigh Convention Center recently hosted the 2023 State of the City, County, and Schools luncheon organized by the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce.
One of the keynote speakers at the event was Raleigh's Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin. During her speech, she highlighted several of the city’s significant economic achievements during this year. She specifically mentioned successful events like the NHL Stadium Series game, which resulted in over $18m in revenue. Poster printing is a common feature at major sports games like this.
Nevertheless, Mayor Baldwin emphasized that the city is not without its share of significant challenges. One such challenge is the pressing issue of affordable housing. Raleigh is currently grappling with meeting the high demand and increasing costs associated with constructing affordable housing structures.
Currently, the City of Raleigh has over 2,000 units of affordable housing in the works, set to become available in 2026. However, numerous residents continue to endure lengthy waitlists before they can secure such housing. Mayor Baldwin is determined to eliminate this waiting period and ensure timely access to affordable housing for all.
Mayor Baldwin expressed her great excitement about construction of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line commencing. In 2016, Wake County voters gave their approval for a $2.3bn investment proposal aimed at expanding mass transit. This plan will require approximately 20 miles’ worth of transit lanes to be built on four corridors all over Wake County.
