Lidl, a German grocery chain, began opening stores in the United States in 2017, and is planning to open more locations on the East Coast, including one in Raleigh.
Twenty-five new stores are planned in Virginia, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and Maryland, in addition to North Carolina. Lidl says they hope to have more than 100 stores open in the country, bringing 1,000 new jobs with them. In North Carolina, Lidl will open in Cary at 2741 NC-55. The location in Raleigh will be close to the intersection of New Hope Road and Buffaloe Road, a parcel of slightly more than six acres. Other North Carolina store locations include Wilmington, Matthews, Greensboro, and Charlotte.
According to the CEO of Lidl US, Johannes Fieber, the company is committed to undertaking long-term expansion in the U.S. and tries to locate its stores where shoppers will find it convenient to visit them. The 25 stores are part of the company’s expansion plans, which will take place over the coming year. Fieber says Lidl is excited to bring the company’s convenient shopping, low prices, and high quality to consumers. In addition to the openings, Lidl is closing two North Carolina stores this summer, since the company feels their locations are inconvenient. The closing stores are in Kinston and Rockingham.
