Overland Contracting, an engineering company, plans to open its headquarters in Garner, about five miles from Raleigh.
The company is sinking $8.4m into the project. The annual average payroll for the 89 new workers is projected at $7.4m, which averages out to a salary of $83,000 per person.
Overland provides construction, procurement, and engineering services in energy, telecommunications, and water, and is a subsidiary of Black & Veatch, which employs approximately 200 people in Mecklenburg and Wake counties.
More specifically, Overland builds infrastructure to help improve communities in the local area. They construct systems to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity; they build waste water treatment plants, as well as telecommunications structures. Sharon Decker, North Carolina's Secretary of Commerce, said Overland's work may help to spur further economic growth in future.
Overland received some financial assistance from the One North Carolina Fund, which issues performance-based grants. The fund attracts businesses to the state to help stimulate the economy and create new jobs. Companies that qualify do not receive money upfront, they have to meet investment performance and job creation standards before they can receive funding. The grants are also dependent upon local matches, which are required.
Overland management will no doubt want to work with a business card printing company to create attractive, memorable cards for its new employees.
