A festival that says summer is here is on the way to Raleigh.
The Well Fed Garden is collaborating with Sweet Peas Urban Gardens to present The Well Fed Community Garden's Fourth Annual Blackberry Festival. The family-friendly event teaches people all about blackberries, as well as how to grow food locally.
Other activities include Garden Tours hosted by farmers, who will discuss organic cultivation as well as permaculture; children's theater; and live music.
Local vendors will offer unusual products, and food, including pizza baked in the pizza oven in the Garden, will be available. There will be a gluten-free option for pizza lovers, as well as fresh-picked salad. Dessert will be—what else—blackberry cobbler.
The Garden was started in 2012 to connect people with the water, air, soil, bees, chickens, and vegetables that nourish them. The Garden is a prime example of urban agriculture, with neighbors and volunteers receiving 20% of the output of the Garden free of charge, and 80% being sold to local establishments. The Garden grows all its products organically, including flowers, mushroom, herbs, berries, fruits, and seasonal vegetables. Brochure printing can be used to create pamphlets that explain organizations like this.
The Blackberry Festival is scheduled for June 20, from 4.00 pm until 8.00 pm, at the Garden at 1321 Athens Drive. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children 10 and younger; tickets include pizza, salad, cobbler, and a drink. Children under two are free.
