Raleigh has hosted a parade on St. Patrick’s Day for many years now, and a fundraiser has been organized to help secure its future.
The news that this year’s parade, which is scheduled for March 11, could be the final one came from the committee that organizes the parade. The parade committee chair, Dianne Enright, stated that with responsibilities like covering police, making sure that the streets are closed off, and getting the necessary insurance policies in place, entry fees are only able to cover half of the total costs of staging the event.
Sponsors and volunteers have arranged a fundraiser to make sure the parade happens next year, and will no doubt be arranging flyer printing to promote their cause. Patrick Kavanuagh from the Raleigh Cu Chulainn Gaelic Athletic Association said that his pub’s league team attends the parade not just for the celebrations, but also to recruit new members. He went on to say that the parade is crucial to the club and a great way to promote its existence and the traditional Irish sports it plays.
A fundraiser has been scheduled for Saturday, February 25 at Compass Rose Brewery. The parade’s website has more information about how to make donations and support the upcoming event, which will be the 39th time it has taken place in Raleigh.
