City plans tour to explain new laws

The City of Raleigh is conducting a tour around its neighborhoods to keep residents informed on its recent decisions regarding zoning laws.

The city council voted is allowing different types of homes with more population density per square foot all over the city. Zoning laws have been changed so that Raleigh has middle-to-high income properties, referred to as ‘missing middle’ housing.

The new rules were approved in installments over the past three years, and they became a hot topic among Raleigh’s residents after new development plans were submitted for approval.

The rule changes allow property developers to put up more townhomes, duplexes, and relatively small apartment complexes in areas that only used to allow single-family homes. The new rules also make it possible for more areas to put up accessory dwellings such as backyard cottages. This means that those areas will experience greater population density in the future.

The meetings and tours are designed to clear up any confusion residents may have about the new policies. The city’s officials have organized five community events that can be attended in person and one virtual event that will be held over the coming six weeks. Flyer printing is a good way to promote a community event.

The series of events started last Wednesday, January 11, and the last one will be on February 14.
