Ed Parks’ new consignment store, Vintage Audio Exchange, is set to have its grand opening this weekend, which is sure to please audiophiles, musicians and antique collectors alike.
Featuring a wide selection of classic amplifiers, radios, record players, cassette decks, and turntables, Parks hopes the Greensboro store will as much a museum as it will be a business.
Parks admitted that his inventory, including his own items and instruments, is beginning to become too large for the amount of space he has. As a drummer for a number of North Carolina-based bands, Parks developed somewhat of an affinity for old instruments and gadgets and began a lifetime of collecting. When he was laid off from his tech support job at the age of 60, he decided opening the store was the best way to go.
The idea of selling vintage audio equipment for use might be fairly unique, but Parks hopes that musicians, antique collects and people who just want a piece of nostalgia will get a kick out of his shop, which is decorated with vintage Posters and gold records from the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s. Local flyer and poster printing companies will no doubt be able to produce further merchandise for the store.
Though Parks; goal is to reduce the number of items he has on hand, he will take consignment on an appointment basis. The grand opening will be tomorrow, February 13.
