High Point event celebrates local organization
An event taking place in a few days in High Point is combining fun and improvement by highlighting a local group.
The Washington Street Unity Festival is an event that celebrates the history and the future of the area, which was formerly known as “Black Wall Street.” The festival itself started small, growing in size as it became an annual tribute to the community members, togetherness, and community pride, as well as the legacy it has built.
The event is hosted by the Washington Street Community Association (WSCA), which was put together in 2023, with the unification of the Washington Street Business Association and the Washington Street Neighborhood Association. The goal of the WSCA is to revitalize the area by bringing residents from different community sectors together to make improvements to all aspects of life in High Point.
Now in its 15th year and carrying the theme of “Homecoming,” the festival will feature live music, vendors, food, art, and activities. People of any age are welcome to attend the event, which is free of charge. Many festivals put together by community-led organizations will choose the promotion technique of flyer printing for reasons such as ease of distribution.
The event will take place on Gordon Street, at Washington Terrace Park this Saturday, October 4. The hours are 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
