What's Happening in High Point, NC…

High Point locals take on popular production

A group of High Point residents is coming together for a special run of shows in early May.

The High Point Community Theatre is a company composed of volunteers. The personnel work to give residents chances to participate in productions, learn about the arts, and inspire kids. Each year, the HPCT works with Music Theatre International to license materials for recognizable and exciting productions for their community.

One of the productions selected this year is Disney’s Newsies: The Broadway Musical. The show, originally produced by Disney Theatrical Productions, draws inspiration from a real event, this being the Newsboy Strike of 1899.

The book was written by Harvey Fierstein, with music and lyrics by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman. The musical was based on Disney’s film, which was written by Noni White and Bob Tzudiker. The local production is choreographed by Amanda Diorio and directed by Courtney Lowe, with music direction from Mike Lasley.

Tickets are sold via etix, as well as the venue’s box office. There are four performances over the course of three days. Tickets range in cost from $25.35 to $30.69. All the shows will be at the High Point Theatre. Many musicals will hire services for poster printing and flyer printing, as both are popular promotion techniques for theater productions. The performances are taking place at 7:30pm on May 9th, 2:00pm and 7:30pm on May 10th, and 2:00pm on May 11th.
