Fayetteville kids invited to get to know opossums
Fayetteville youngsters are invited to come out and meet a furry but misunderstood member of their local wildlife community.
The Cape Fear Botanical Garden’s After School programming introduces young learners to a variety of wildlife-related subjects, and it has planned an afternoon that will be focused on opossums. These are the only marsupials to be found in North America, and this hands-on activity will explore what other facts aside from this make them special.
This drop-off workshop, which is intended for kids from ages 5 to 10, will see a group of learners head outside to look for the spaces these creatures inhabit, as well as tracks and other signs that they have taken up residence. They will find out why they are important to the local ecosystem, as well as why they have opposable thumbs, and advanced registration is required.
To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, masks are mandatory to take part in this session. Activity sheets and other materials can help the kids who attend this sort of function to keep on learning, and these can be prepared by local print shops.
This introduction to opossums will be held on January 20 starting at 4:00 pm. The location can be found at 536 North Eastern Boulevard, and registration can be completed through the garden’s website.
