Buffalo Traffic Jam is a duo, Nathan Ross and Frankie Cassidy, who met when they were Montana State University students. They discovered a mutual love of storytelling and acoustic sound, and brought these qualities together in their debut EP, “Buffalo Traffic Jam,” which they followed with the singles “Forgot Your Roots” and “Rescue Me.” “Forgot Your Roots” began to gain traction online, and eventually brought them to a deal with Arista Records, their first label.
Their style has been noted for its spare instrumentation, rich harmonies, and vocals that create feelings in listeners, whether those feelings are joy, longing, or something in between. Buffalo Traffic Jam’s music is both melodic and atmospheric, based on folk traditions yet with a contemporary edge.
They released two additional singles “Milestone” and “Strangers Now” in 2025 and are being invited to perform at festivals such as the Red West Festival, and to tour with artists like Dylan Gossett. They have moved from jam sessions in their dorm room to filling local venues, all without losing the friendship that first united them. A concert review says:
“They put feelings like missing someone or not knowing what comes next into words you want to wail at the top of your lungs.”
Buffalo Traffic Jam will be at the Wilma Theatre in Missoula on December 11, where people who organize shows like this can use poster printing to promote them.
