An Americana/country band is bringing its sound from Texas to Missoula.
Uncle Lucius is from Austin, Texas, and is a group who has gotten a second chance, something rare in the music business. The band first formed in 2002 when one of its founders, Kevin Galloway, moved to Austin to pursue a career in music. He began playing at open-mic events, where he met Hal Vorpahl, who played piano as well as bass guitar. They began performing together and then became a trio when guitarist Mike Carpenter joined. Carpenter loved classic rock and was a long-time member of the music scene in Austin. Finally, Jason Armstrong joined to handle the drums, and the initial Uncle Lucius lineup was set.
Uncle Lucius released “Something They Ain’t,” in 2006 and supported it with regional tours. They had a lineup change but went ahead with their second album, “Pick Your Head Up” in 2009, and the next year they released “Live at the Saxon Pub,” a recording made at one of their favorite venues.
The group broke up in 2018, but one of their songs was used on the television show “Yellowstone” in 2021 and streamed almost 330 million times. That prompted the band to reform and in 2023 they were back, bringing their roots rock/blues sound to their fans.
Uncle Lucius will be at The Wilma Theatre in Missoula on August 6. When they book performances like this, organizers can publicize them using advertisements created with poster printing.
