A group that has been rocking audiences for decades is on the way to Missoula.
The rock band Chicago first got together in 1967 in Chicago. Although they describe themselves as a “rock and roll band with horns,” they mix pop music, R&B, jazz, and classical music into their sound.
The original band members were drummer Danny Seraphine, Walter Parazaider on woodwinds, trombonist James Pankow, trumpeter Lee Loughnane, keyboardist Robert Lamm, guitarist Terry Kath, and bassist Peter Cetera. The duties of lead vocalist were shared by Lamm, Kath, and Cetera. Pankow, Loughnane, and Lamm are still with the outfit.
The band first called themselves The Big Thing, then in 1968, changed to The Chicago Transit Authority, which is the actual name of the city’s mass-transit system. In 1969, they finally cut the name to Chicago, partly because the city objected to their using it.
They are one of the most successful acts in music history, selling more than 100 million albums throughout their career. They have released 26 studio albums, seven live albums, 11 compilation albums, and 67 singles. They were successful from the start. Their debut album, 1969’s “Chicago Transit Authority,” sold more than one million Copies and was nominated for a Grammy. The Library of Congress selected the album for inclusion in the National Recording Registry in 2025.
Chicago will appear at the Adams Center Arena on September 29. When they book shows like this, organizers can use poster printing to create advertising for them.
